Last weekend, The Club for Growth hosted three potential 2012 candidates: Mark Sanford, Mitt Romney, and Jim DeMint.

Ken Silverstein says both Sanford and DeMint held their own on the platform.

Mitt Romney? Not so much.

Whaaaat??? Mike wasn't invited???? What's up with that? I'm shocked!

Wow! This really happened? It sounds like a dream that we may have hoped would happen. Especially the applause. Where were these people during the campaign? Funny, no one has covered it in the mainstream media.... this is probably the only place we will hear of it.

Sounds like he faced an intelligent crowd who did their own research instead of listening to the pundits who have been saying that Romney=Reagan.

Wow, doesn't look to be going good for him, if that report is true. Too bad the establishment didn't ask those questions about his past in '08.

These are businessmen and they're looking for a good investment in their (not any particular politician's) future prospects. At some point the Romney Inc. PE ratio (Price to Electability) may have just been too much for any more "irrational exuberance." At this point Romney looks like another Michigan product - GM.

Or to translate to Southern:

That dawg can't hunt.

Now let's hope they have the good sense to invest in Arkansas's own - Walmart.

Romney can only with with establishment support....that is why this is so significant. I really like our 2012 chances. Grassroots are unstoppable because they can't be bought off.

Perhaps we should get some t-shirts printed up that say "he started it" and send them to Mitt and to Barack. That seems to be their favorite phrase these days.

Ooh, yeah, and cc Hannity while you're at it, too!

I just came to this post from the one where Glenn Beck is saying Obama and the people in DC need to grow up (ie. the "Bush started it!" themesong) I can just see Romney whining like that, too!

As much as we dislike Romney -- and trust me, I am right in there with you -- we should hold our greatest distrust of Club for Growth. And I am quite sure that Governor Huckabee would agree. They would follow him on the campaign trail and run speeches tinged with lies. They are the true "No tax -- ever -- don't care what hapapens to anyone" crowd.

For the record, their guy is Mark Sanford. That is who they are going to push -- not our guy Mike. They still hate him.

In the end, Mike connects through grassvotes. All these elitist clubby jerks will not deter him -- they didn't stop McCain in 2008 and they won't stop Mike in 2012, if he chooses to run for it.

Yeah, but isn't Sanford the one who doesn't communicate well & tends to rub people the wrong way? Could he really be a contender let alone a threat?

Oh, absolutely, QuoVadisAnima -- Mark Sanford is a much, much easier candidate for Mike than Romney. Of course, Sanford might present a threat in South Carolina (since he is governor), but in that case, SC just won't matter. No, of course, Mike is a supervior candidate to Sanford -- and might still take SC -- as I am sure many people on this post will attest. Romney is the bigger threat.

So I completely appreciate everyone's happiness in this article -- I am, too.

My only point was that those who came down hard on Romney come from the Club for Growth -- who I also hate. Guess there are too many bad guys, right?

At any rate, I join you in your sentinment -- Mark Sanford will never stand a chance, and it's great to see, at least for now, Romney getting some tough love.
