:!: According to the liberal RightWingWatch.org,
We ARE making a difference:

"While many leaders want to endorse fan favorite Mike Huckabee, others are more hesitant. The source informed me that "the dilemma is over whether to choose the preferred candidate of their constituents or go with the pragmatic choice and risk offending our base."

According to the source, James Dobson of Focus on the Family likes Mitt Romney, Gary Bauer of American Values prefers Fred Thompson, and Don Wildmon of the American Family Association likes Huckabee. Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council is still on the fence, but nearing a decision.

In fact, very little has changed: Supporting McCain or Giuliani was never much of a possibility and the right-wing leadership has always been torn between Romney, Thompson, and, to a lesser extent, Huckabee. The only new development is that some are becoming more willing to openly back Huckabee..."

"... Given his rock-solid right-wing record, the fact that some leaders are willing to back Huckabee is to be expected - but it appears as if his strong performance at the Summit is changing the overall dynamic:

Huckabee's rock star reception at the Value Voters Summit made things more difficult.

Interestingly, the source described a "new pragmatic narrative" that may be forming: "None of the top-tier can beat Hillary anyway so why risk offending the base by snubbing Huckabee?"

Either way, social conservative leaders are in a bind.

"If we don't support Huckabee we tick off religious conservatives," the source lamented. "If we push Huckabee we tick off everyone else. It's a tough situation to be in."

While there is an effort afoot to convince the right-wing leadership to rally behind Romney in order to stop Giuliani, there now appears to be another effort afoot to rally these same leaders behind Huckabee in order to simply avoid angering their own activists."

They're feeling the pressure from us, so keep letting our conservative leaders know WE WANT HUCKABEE!!

How can it be tough for them to select a guy that has high morals, stands by his word, and shows leadership? Tough? I'd say it would be tough to pick someone that doesn't measure up to Huck. Wouldn't you agree?

Hmmm.....after re-reading the post, I wonder who is the "everyone else" they're concerned about ticking off?

Fiscons. Like it or not, Huckabee is going to have to do a better job of addressing the concerns that he is a big spender and, thus, big on government.

No matter who they're concerned about ticking off, I ask,"Who are they supposed to represent?!" I'll answer my own question:
They are supposed to be Conservative Christian leaders, NOT "Big Money" leaders!

These leaders have spent 30 years building access to the elite establishment - this does create a conflict of interest. It is sad but true.

I'm guessing it is the people who give them big money ....... Dobson has values but he still needs to pay his bills

Exactly ColoradoMom...they should do what they're convictions tell them to do, not what is "politically expedient" or "financially expedient" and by that I mean, I don't want them to back Romney (or Thompson) because they think he might win or to back Huckabee JUST to please me (and their other "constituents")...

i would hope they would choose Huckabee because their principles are guiding them...

we respect these guys not because they're powerful, but because they're Godly...and their convictions should point to that above all else...

but alas, maybe I'm just an idealist...

They'd rather care about their political face than their values? Some religious leaders they are... Unity is the option why can't they see that. Huck's supporters are growing so why do they delay?

They want to be kingmakers. Huckabee can't be controlled, so he's not a good candidate for them.

They have forgotten their principles.

We need to keep contacting these leaders. Here is the thread with contact information:

If you have any other sources (i.e. Richard Land, etc.) post them here.

Here is an email that I wrote to Gary Bauer after he responded to my initial email. You can pull ideas from it in your own letters to these leaders:
Quote:
Dear Mr. Bauer,

Please don't think I was questioning your qualifications to express a personal opinion. My concern primary is that you have put the "realities of politics" above the promises of God. I know I speak for thousands upon thousands of voters. I've personally spoken with hundreds.

I believe that Mike Huckabee has the hand of God upon him. In "political reality" terms you could say he has the enthusiasm and the momentum to win. If money could buy the power that Mike Huckabee has to rally values voters as well as reach across the aisle, then Romney would have had it $50+ million ago.

In his speech at the Washington Briefing, Governor Huckabee talked a lot about what God did in the Bible -- such as taking five loaves and two fish and feeding 5,000. I want to be reassured that you believe in the same God, Mr. Bauer.

The energy and enthusiasm that you felt at the Washington Briefing for Mr. Huckabee was only a glimpse into what is happening across the country. God is doing something big -- and I think that deep down you can tell. I don't have to tell you that this is a historical election. Don't be on the wrong side of history.

In Christ Alone,
Brett Harris

Acts 5:35, 38-39 "Men of Israel, take care what you are about to do with these men... for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!"

YES, NOW, WE'VE GOTTA HIT THEM HARD!!

These leaders are finding themselves in a quandry, they're backed up into a corner. It's pragmatics or losing their grass roots base (US!!!)

They're either going to bow to the pressure and endorse Huckabee...OR...they're gonna hope the enthusiasm for Huckabee and the pressure from Christians will die down. Then they can justify themselves again, and quietly proceed on their previous agenda.

WE CANNOT LET THE LATTER HAPPEN!!! NOW IS THE TIME TO PUT THE PRESSURE ON! We can't let them squirm out of this one. We cannot give them an option. THEY MUST UNDERSTAND what's at stake. They're scared. We have to get them where it hurts. They must understand in no uncertain terms that they are at HIGH RISK of losing the support of the Christian grassroots constituency. This is what they fear!!!
It's got to hurt them more to alienate "us" (their grassroots Christian base) than anybody else.

And we MUST COMMUNICATE THAT TO THEM. We've gotta get the message out.....with our blogs, with Christian media AND MSM. We've got to make them understand what's at risk if they choose to disregard Huckabee as the "Christian Conservative Candidate"! They must understand the consequences.

We need to ride them on this one. We need to do it while the iron is still hot!!! I know this is harsh...but it's "Tough Love", folks!

Guys, I spent the week leading up to the Values Voters Summit calling as many of these guys as I could manage to get a hold of to encourage them to endorse Mike. Dobson, Perkins, and Bauer were pretty inaccessible, so I had to just leave messages with who knows who I was talking to, but I actually was given Wildmon's secretary's extension, and she let me leave a message on his machine. Another time, I left a message on his executive assistant, Buddy Smith's, machine, and the other times I just left messages with Tricia (that's his sec's name).

I know for a fact that she gave him my messages because she gave me responses that he had given her. Also, she acted like she would have let me talk to him myself if I could have caught him when he was available. I always got the impression that she and Wildmon liked Huckabee, but she would never say for sure.

Anyway, all that was just to say that, if Don Wildmon is our biggest supporter right now, we need to be letting him know that we're 100% behind him, and to keep up the good fight!

Here's the AFA phone number: 1-662-844-5036 and Tricia's extension is 274

We definitely don't want to bother her, but I think a good number of quick, encouraging, tongue-in-cheek thank-you's (since we don't know for absolute sure he's with Huck yet) would do a lot of good. She was always very nice and sounded happy to talk to me, so I think she'd appreciate it.

Also, we could always email encouragement here:

URL Contact AFA

Let's let Mr. Wildmon know that we're behind him and down on our knees with him 100%!!!
